Let’s talk about the First Five Wicket Haul in ODI Cricket history

Dennis Lillee Creates history in ODI Cricket

It was the year 1975 and it was an ODI Match between two very good teams in Australia and Pakistan. During those times , Australia was one of the best teams and Pakistan was a good team getting better with each passing match. In this match Australia batted first and they played very well throughout the 60 overs that they had to play with. Most of the Batters made 40s but it was Rose Edwards who made the highest runs of 80 and he made these runs in 94 balls and he hit just 6 fours meaning 24 runs In boundaries. Australia made 278 runs in 60 overs and Pakistan needed 279 to win.

The Pakistan innings was one which had absolutely no momentum for a long period of time. Majid Khan made 65 runs but the other batters were not able to support him. Dennis Lillee was in his best form as he bowled 12 overs and in those overs he gave away 34 runs and he took 5 Wickets in the innings. And by taking 5 wickets in the innings he created history as he became the very first bowler in the 4 year history of ODI Cricket to take a 5 wicket Haul and there could not have been anyone better to break this barrier. Pakistan had Asif Iqbal who made 51 runs but it was not enough as they got all out for 205 runs in 53 overs meaning they still had 7 overs left to bat.

This was a commanding win for Australia and one of the main reasons was the first ever 5 Wicket Haul that Dennis Lillee took In this match and he was the man who showed all the bowlers that it was possible to take 5 wickets in an ODI Match. This Pakistan team had the likes of Zaheer Abbas and Imran Khan and yet Australia won by 73 runs. This was a match that is remembered for this achievement and Dennis Lillee had yet another ground breaking accomplishment in his iconic career.
