Since the India vs New Zealand ODI Series is going on, it would be fun to look at the highest ODI Partnership in India’s history which took place between Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid against New Zealand in the year 1999. At that time Indian batting was one of the best in the world and the New Zealand Bowling was one of the best.

India lose their first wicket early

In that match the start for India was not ideal as India lost a wicket very early as Sourav Ganguly got out after scoring just 4 runs and India were in a spot of bother and Rahul Dravid joined Sachin Tendulkar at the crease and they were looking to reset the innings.

After the first wicket fell it was time to restart the Innings and both Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid started hitting fours and sixes and they attacked the bowlers to all parts and thus the Indian innings was off to the races and the task was to not let go of this opportunity and make big scores and that’s exactly what they did.

They played More aggressive cricket

Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid are not known for playing aggressive cricket at all times and especially Rahul Dravid who was seen as more of a conservative player but even he was playing with more Aggression. Sachin Tendulkar went on to make a monstrous hundred as he scored 186 runs from just 150 balls and in this mammoth innings he hit a whopping 20 fours and 3 sixes which means a total of 98 runs in boundaries. He also ran ones and twos. And Rahul Dravid took 153 balls to make 153 which means at a strike rate of 100 and in his innings he hit 15 fours and 2 sixes and he is not known for hitting sixes.

India register a big win

As a result of this 331 run partnership it meant that India made 376 runs in their innings and New Zealand were out of the match and when they batted they could only make 202 which was 229 short of their partnership of 331 and India won the match by 174 runs. It was one of the most memorable days as an Indian cricket fan.
