Top 5 Best Mohinder Amarnath Performances

Mohinder Amarnath is one of those rare gems of Indian cricket that could do amazing things with both bat and ball. Check out here the top 5 best Mohinder Amarnath Performances.

Now after all the legends we have talked about a player that is one of the biggest legends in the history of Indian cricket and if this player was not available for India in the 1983 World Cup then India would not have been able to win that tournament and change the course of cricket history forever. He was the man of the match in both the semi final and the final of the 1983 World Cup and he could do it with the bat and the ball.

Mohinder Amarnath is one of those rare gems of Indian cricket that could do amazing things with both bat and ball and also do it in both the formats of the game at the time. I have seen his performances for India online and can genuinely say that he along with Kapil Dev were the original all rounders for India. So, let’s see the Top 5 Best Mohinder Amarnath Performances.

138 vs Australia (1986)

This is the highest test score by the great Mohinder Amarnath in his incredible test career where he scored more than 4300 test runs at an average of more than 42 which is commendable. This test match was in Sydney and India were batting first and they made the most of the first bite of the flat deck. Mohinder Amarnath came into bat at number 3 in this match after Sunil Gavaskar and Kris Srikkanth gave an outstanding opening partnership for India and Amarnath carried on the momentum and played a mature innings which lasted for more than 300 balls and he was rewarded by getting a fabulous hundred and a match winning score for India.

131 vs Sri Lanka (1986)

It looks like the year 1986 was very kind to Mohinder Amarnath as he was just scoring runs in test cricket at will and making Hundreds ehenevyje wanted to. If the first innings on my list was a fabulous away hundred then this one vs Sri Lanka was a statement century against a very good Sri Lanka team at that time. He came in his usual spot of number 3 and this time he came in when the score was 5/1 and from there he stabilized the innings and got one of his career best hundreds and took India to a score of 451 runs.

4/63 vs New Zealand (1976)

We now go a decade behind to the year 1976 and this is where he had his best ever test bowling performance of 4/63 vs New Zealand at their ground. India batted first in this test match and were bowled out for 270 runs in the first innings and the onus was on the bowlers to give a fighting chance in this match and that’s  exactly what Mohinder Amarnath did in his spell. Although New Zealand got a lead of 133 it was he who was responsible for the lead not getting out of hand and he bowled the best in his test career and what a perfect time to do it as well.

102* vs New Zealand (1988)

If in the last performance that I talked about Mohinder Amarnath tormented New Zealand with the ball then in this one he did it with the bat and that too after 12 years after the last incredible performance against New Zealand. This showed that he was timeless and that he could do this at any time. India were batting first in this ODI match and only Mohinder Amarnath could score a century and he took India to 267 runs and in the end India won the match by 73 runs and this was his highest ODI score.

3/12 vs West Indies (1983)

This was the most important match in the career not only of Mohinder Amarnath but for the whole of India in 1983 as it was the first appearance in a World Cup final for the nation and India got out for 183 while batting first and it looked like all hope was lost but with the ball every Bowler stepped up and took wickets when it mattered and 2 bowlers room 3 wickets in the innings but it was Mohinder Amarnath with his outstanding spell of 3/12 ensured that India made history that day and fittingly he took the last wicket of Michael Holding to win the World Cup and create a memory that will last forever.
