Top 5 Best Performances of Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami has been playing international cricket for India since 2013. His swing and the pace he gets puts the batters in a difficult spot. Check out his top 5 best performances.

We talked about the best performances of Jasprit Bumrah in a previous article so in this article we will talk about one of his fast bowling partners and someone who has served Indian cricket very well for 9 years and especially in the last 5 years we have seen a different side to this bowler and a more fitter fast bowler. We are talking about none other than Mohammad Shami who has perhaps the cleanest bowling action in world cricket at the moment and someone who I enjoy watching bowl a lot. His swings and the pace he gets puts the batters in a difficult spot.

Mohammed Shami has been playing international cricket for India since 2013 and in these 9 years he has played 60 Test Matches for India and in those Matches he has taken 216 Test Wickets at an average of 27.46 with 6 Five wicket hauls in test cricket. He has also played 82 ODIs and he has got 152 ODI wickets at an average of 25.72 with 1 Five wicket haul. He will play for at least 4-5 more years so that means he will take a lot more wickets and we will make a new list then. So, let’s see the Top 5 Best Performances till now.

4/71 and 5/47 vs West Indies (2013)

This was his first test match and what a dream Debut he had to his test career, taking 9 wickets against a test team and that too at your home ground was special for him. In the first innings of the test match Shami took 4 wickets in 17 overs and he gave away 71 runs but the best waa saved for the third Innings where Mohammed Shami took his first 5 wicket haul in test cricket and this time he bowled 13.1 overs and gave away only 57 runs and he got 9 wickets in the match thus starting his test career in style.

5/112 vs Australia (2015)

This was the first overseas 5 wicket haul for Shami in his test career so this has to be in this list. This came in 2015 at the SCG and in the first innings when Australia were batting he was the only Bowler who looked like taking wickets and he bowled his heart out for 28.3 overs giving away 112 runs and getting his second Fiver in test cricket and this was a performance that gave this young bowler a lot of accolades and recognition. His career changed for the better here.

6/56 vs Australia (2018)

This is his best ever test bowling performance and it came in 2018 at Perth where the rest of the Indian team didn’t turn up. He was the shining light in a lost test match. And he got these 6 wickets in the second batting innings of Australia and he was becoming the master of the second innings as he bowled for 24 overs In this innings and gave away 56 runs and took 6 wickets and as a result he gave India some hope to bounce back in this test match but still this was his best ever bowling performance in a tough situation.

4/35 vs Pakistan (2015)

This is my personal favorite bowling performance of his in the ODI format because it came in the 2015 World Cup against Pakistan which was such a high pressure match and he stepped up for India. He was bowling in the second innings when Pakistan needed 301 runs to win and in 9 overs of bowling and giving away 35 runs he got 4 important Wickets and as a result of his brilliance India won that match by 76 runs. This was an exhibition of fast bowling.
