Top 5 Best Ravi Shastri Performances

Ravi Shastri is one of Indian cricket’s all time characters. Ravi Shastri was also part of the winning team from the 1983 World Cup. We here take a look at his top 5 best performances.

Ravi Shastri is one of Indian cricket’s all time characters and a very good all round player himself and the way he adapted himself in different positions that the team put him in is a testament to how good of a player he was because it is not at all easy to switch batting places throughout your career and still do so well for your country. Not only was he very good with bat in hand but also he was more than handy with the ball as he took more than 100 Wickets each in both Tests and ODIs. He was the head coach of the Indian team since 2014 and his current stint was from 2017-2021 and he did a very good job as the coach.

Ravi Shastri was also part of the winning team from the 1983 World Cup and he played an important role in India winning that tournament. In 1985 came his crowning moment as he won the player of the series award in the 1985 World Championship and he got an Audi car which he drove in the ground himself. He is also one of the best commentators in the game and has lent his voice to some of the most iconic moments in Indian cricket history. Let’s see the Top 5 Best Ravi Shastri Performances.

206 vs Australia (1992)

This was the highest test score in the illustrious career of Ravi Shastri and it could not come at a better time than in the 1992 test series vs Australia. He came out to bat at the top of the order, a position which he earned due to his hard work and skills. He was the lone man standing in the crease and all the wickets kept falling at the other end but then at number 6 came in Sachin Tendulkar and this was his first tour to Australia and this young man left an impression that no one would forget but it was Ravi Shastri who was guiding this young man and he went on to make the only double hundred in his career.

187 vs England (1990)

If the first innings that I mentioned was a masterclass on how to play in Australian wickets then this innings was an exhibition of how to bat in England and the fact that his 2 highest test scores came away from home and he was opening the batting meaning facing the most difficult part of the bowling is commendable. In this innings he got stuck in the crease and no bowler could get him out that day as he played more than 400 balls for his 187. He hit 23 fours in this beautiful innings and his class was all over this innings.

5/75 vs Pakistan (1983)

As I told you before that he was not only good with the bat but with the ball he was a wicket taker and at regular intervals he got important wickets of the opposition. His best ever test bowling performance came against arch rivals Pakistan and he was fired up because India only made 245 in the first innings and it was time to reply back and Ravi Shastri was the man for the Job as he did not allow the Pakistan batters to get away with the match as he took a 5 wicket haul and India were in the test match.

109 vs South Africa (1991)

Now we are back with the ODI format as i told you that he is a great 2 format player and he has also scored a few centuries in ODI cricket as well and this innings vs South Africa was his best and it came in 1991. India were batting first and Ravi Shastri was opening the innings for India and he got off to a brisk start and gave India the momentum they needed and Sanjay Manjrekar also scored a brilliant hundred as well but South Africa chased the score and India lost but this was the best innings for Ravi.

5/15 vs Australia (1991)

His best ever bowling performance in ODI cricket resulted in a big win for India and it was at the ground that was considered the fortress for Australia and it was Ravi Shastri who was the hero India needed. While batting first India made only 208 for 7 Wickets and it looked like all is lost but with the ball Ravi Shastri started taking wickets regularly and the potent Australia batting line-up was torn apart and India bowled out Australia for only 101 runs and won the match by 107 runs.U never got the chance to see him play live but I am sure looking at all these incredible Performances that he was a very special player.
