After the infamous Calciopoli scandal that shocked the football world at the time, Juventus were stripped of multiple Serie A titles and relegated to Serie B for the first time in the club’s history. The Old Lady went on to win Serie B and return back to the Italian top-flight. Their return to Serie A didn’t result in any silverware though, as the likes of Inter Milan, and AC Milan went on to win the league. The announcement of Antonio Conte was met with huge excitement and expectations within the Bianconeri fan base, as Conte was a former fan-favourite during his playing days at Juve and many expected him to bring back the glory days for them.


The first season


Conte's arrival at the club also saw make some notable moves in the transfer window, with the major signings being the legendary Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal. A coach that is synonymous with the use of a 3-man defensive system, you will be surprised to know that Conte initially preferred a 4-2-4 system at the time he joined Juve. He later shifted to a 4-3-3, and eventually the 3-5-2 system that we all associate him with. There is no manager arguably in modern Football who influenced the usage and popularity of the 3-5-2 and 3-4-3 systems other than Conte.

Juventus began their season in dominating fashion, as they went on a 28-match unbeaten run. Things were looking great in the League, especially with the team boasting the legendary defensive trio of Bonucci, Barzagli, and Chiellini at the time. The Old Lady ended the Serie A season as undefeated champions, being the first ever team to remain undefeated since the expansion of the league 20 teams and 38 rounds. They were able to reach the Coppa Italia finals as well later in the season, but were beaten by Napoli. It was their only defeat in domestic competitions that season.


The 2012-13 season


Conte's next season at Juventus began on a heartbreaking note for their fans, as one of their greatest players ever in Del Piero left the club. In terms of transfers, a certain Paul Pogba was acquired as a free-agent by the club.


The season began on a high for the Bianconeri, as they beat Napoli 4-2 to win the 2012 Supercoppa Italiana. This season also marked their return to the Champions League as well. Conte's Juventus started were they left off last season, as they went on to dominate the League just like the previous season. Juventus became Serie A champions for the second consecutive time, with a total of 87 points.



Coming to the other competitions, they were knocked out of the Coppa Italia semi-finals by Lazio, While their European dreams were shattered by eventual winners Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.


His final season


Juventus went on to add Carlos Tevez to their already frightening team that season. The new season also began on a high, as they won the Supercoppa Italiana yet again after beating Lazio 4-0. Conte's final season at Juventus was similar to his previous one's at the club as well. They went on to win the League in dominating fashion with 102 points, while the Coppa Italia title yet again slipped away from their grasps after a quarter-final lose to Roma.


Conte's Juventus yet again underperformed in the Champions League, as they were out in the group stages. They were however able to reach till the semi-finals of the Europa League.

The end of the season saw Conte resign as manager.


His legacy


Conte may have only been there for 3 seasons at Juventus, but it was he that brought back the Old Lady as a dominant force in Serie A. He also laid the foundation for the brilliant successes the club achieved after his departure under Allegri. Conte will forever be a Juventus legend.
