This is a different type of article we are doing and here we will not look at the Head to Head byr have a general look at the Three best female tennis players of all time and try to see who is the greatest of them all. This is a really interesting article to write as all 3 ladies have their strengths and all 3 have achieved the highest in women’s tennis and made it what it is today.
For example if we calculate the singles Grand Slam titles between these 3 best tennis players it will be 18 of Martina Navratilova, 22 of Steffi Graf and 23 Serena Williams which makes it a total of 63 Grand Slam singles titles among the 3 which is 1 more than the trip of Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic at this point with 62 Grand Slam singles titles. So, let’s dissect each of these 3 players individually
Martina Navratilova
The first player we will talk about is Martina Navratilova and she is one of the greatest of all time in both Singles and doubles as she has won 18 Singles Grand Slam titles and 31 Women’s Doubles Grand Slam titles and 10 Mixed Doubles Grand Slam titles which makes it a total of 69 slams and that is a record in the Open Era. She has won all the 4 singles Grand Slam titles Twice in her career and in the Women’s doubles Grand Slam she has won at least 7 Times all the 4 Grand Slam titles which is ridiculous. Martina Navratilova was a left handed player and she made the most of it. Her record in both Singles and doubles is incredible with almost 84% win % in both the disciplines. She won more than 2000 matches in her career.
Steffi Graf
Steffi Graf had a 17 year pro career and in all those 17 years was the biggest star of female tennis all around the world and with good reason. She has won a total of 22 Singles Grand Slam titles and 1 doubles Grand Slam titles and she is superior to Martina in singles but Martina Navratilova is way ahead in doubles. Steffi Graf has won all the 4 singles Grand Slam titles at least 4 times which is remarkable and shows she was adaptable to all conditions including clay, grass or hard courts in her career. Her singles win record is incredible with 900 wins and a win % of 88.7. Her only doubles Grand Slam title came in 1988 at Wimbledon. She had won 107 career titles which is the 3rd highest of all time. Steffi Graf made women’s tennis so popular that a lot of young girls wanted to be like her when they grew up
Serena Williams
The third player that we will talk about is Serena Williams and she is considered the greatest player of all time and she has a strong case for it as well. She has won 23 Singles Grand Slam titles and 14 doubles Grand Slam titles in her career along with 4 Olympic Gold Medals. She has won all the 4 singles Grand Slam titles 3 times in her career and the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open at least 6 times each in her career and she will be playing in this year’s Wimbledon as well. She has won 14 Women’s Doubles Grand Slam titles along with her sister Venus Williams and they have won all the 4 Doubles Grand Slam titles Twice. Her record in Singles is incredible with a win % of 84.9 with 855 wins in her singles career.
My Opinion
I have only seen Serena Williams play live so according to me she is the greatest because when she won Grand Slam titles there was no one close to her and she dominated her opponents. Steffi Graf has had the most impact on Women’s tennis as a whole and Martina Navratilova was a Grand Slam winning machine with 69 titles that will never ever be beaten.
