Irfan Pathan Hat Trick vs Pakistan - First Player to claim Hat Trick in first over of Test Match

Irfan Pathan made history in 2006 when he became the first Bowler in the history of test cricket to take a hat trick in the first over of the test match.

Irfan Pathan made history in 2006 when he became the first Bowler in the history of test cricket to take a hat trick in the first over of the test match. This was a very special achievement because before him no bowler had done it in the history of test cricket. This was in Karachi in Pakistan so that made it even more special. However, India lost the match by 341 runs but that does not take away from the achievement. He was swinging the ball left and right.

Let’s talk about the Hat Trick that he took in the first over of the test match and created history

Irfan Pathan Creates Test Cricket History

This was Test Match number 1783 in the history of test cricket at that time and this was the 2006 series against Pakistan. This match was held in Karachi and it was supposed to be a great match between 2 Great Teams. Pakistan were batting first and the first over of the match was bowled by Irfan Pathan. The ball was swinging as it has been the first 3 balls but from the 4th ball something happened that made history in the then 129 years history of test cricket. He first got Salman Butt out on the 4th ball when he was caught by Rahul Dravid at slip.

Then came in to bat Younis Khan who was the best batter in the team and he was out first ball as Irfan Pathan got him out LBW. This was a big wicket for India as Younis Khan could have taken the match away from India. After Younis Khan, the next batter in was Mohammad Yousuf who was the second best batter in the team and Irfan Pathan castled him as he bowled him. This was the perfect start for India as he took 3 wickets in the first over of the test match and the score was 0 runs for 3 wickets. India had got the upper hand in this match but after this Pakistan took control and in the second batting innings that they had in this match they scored a massive 599 runs in 140 overs with their Top 7 batters getting more than 50 runs which has rarely happened in Test Cricket history.

India could not take advantage of the great start that Irfan Pathan had given them and after both the first innings of this test match by both teams the scores were level and it was the poor bowling by the Indian Bowlers in the second innings that resulted in Pakistan winning this match by 341 runs even after such a poor start. However, this does not diminish the achievement of Irfan Pathan at all because what he had done is something that always would be his record of being the first ever to do it. In the 4th innings of this match India could only make 265 runs.
