Lionel Messi is one of the greatest players to ever grace a football pitch. The Argentine is both a prolific goal scorer and assistant, but it’s his goal scoring prowess that has been the most impressive aspect of Messi’s game over the years. At present, the forward is the third-highest goal scorer in footballing history, just a few goals behind second-place Joseph Bican. Lionel Messi also has countless goal-scoring records including the top scorer in La Liga history and the most goals of any South American player at international level.


10. Vs Eibar, 2017


The first goal on this list came back in 2017 when FC Barcelona were facing off with Eibar in a La Liga clash. The ball would be cleared to the halfway line. Lionel Messi would touch it down and quickly danced past one defender with some help from Sergio Busquets. Messi then went on to send several Eibar defenders the wrong way before slotting past the keeper from around 15 yards.

9. Vs Liverpool, 2019


Lionel Messi’s goal vs Liverpool in 2019 is not given too much attention because of what happened in the following leg between the two sides, but it was still a masterful goal. Barcelona faced off with Liverpool at the Camp Nou in the first of two Champions League semi-final ties, and the home outfit did look to have the tie wrapped up in the first leg. Luis Suarez opened the scoring on the night before Messi added a brace late on, the second of which was arguably his best-ever free- kick.


8. Vs Athletic Bilbao, 2013


Lionel Messi loves a stunning strike vs Athletic Bilboa. The Spanish side have conceded 29 times to the no.10 and several have been superb. One of which came back in 2013. Barca would draw 2-2 with Athletic Bilboa in a La Liga clash and Messi scored their opening goal, shaking off three defenders before curling in a trademark finish from the edge of the box.


7. Vs Arsenal, 2011


During the Champions League game on March 8, 2011, against Arsenal, he came to the rescue of Barcelona, scoring two shots. However, one of the goals lifted over Manuel Almunia's head while the other was the most remarkable shot that left fans stunned. This earned him a Puskas award nomination in 2011.


6. Vs Real Madrid, 2011


On April 27, 2011, in the UEFA Champions League, he scored an awesome shot for Barcelona using his weaker right foot with some assist from the midfield Sergio Busquets, past his Real Madrid opponent goalkeeper Iker Casillas. This marked his 500th career goal and surely celebrated his achievement.

5. Vs Getafe, 2007


Despite having hundreds of games, the Argentine player at a match against the La Liga team Getafe in 2007 made a historical shot, which has been heralded as the best Lionel Messi goal of his entire career. During this march, he saw his way past five Getafe defenders before sending the goalkeeper in the wrong direction, only to score in the opposite direction. This score sold him as a huge threat to the European football scene.

He scored another breath-taking goal on May 5, 2012, against La Liga team Espanyol. It was Guardiola's last game in charge at Camp Nou, and Messi marked it by scoring four. The goal that completed his 20th hat trick for Barcelona was probably the best. As with so many other strikes, his first touch took him past the defender, beaten not by his dribbling but by his sublime control. On June 21, 2016, during a Copa America match against USMNT, he scored yet another amazing shot with the help of an arrowed free kick. With just over half an hour on the clock, Messi stood over the ball, eyed Brad Guzan's goal, then whipped the ball ferociously into the top corner. As far as record-breaking scores go, it's one of the best.

During a match against Man City during the UEFA Champions League, he broke his duck of not scoring easily in PSG, in sensational style, with a goal against the team in the group stage of the Champions League in 2021-22. The Argentine linked up with new team-mate Kylian Mbappe, who laid the ball off for a trademark left- foot curler, leaving Ederson with no chance. It was later voted 'Goal of the Group Stage.

During his first season at Paris Saint Germain, he endured a lot of criticism, often being booed. However, this did not set him back; instead, during a match against Lens on April 23, 2022, he showed his prowess by scoring a classic top-corner shot. This did not fail to go into the growing records of Lionel Messi's best goals of 2022. He has had eight assists in the 2022/2023 season in 13 matches, therefore, managing an average of 0.62 per 90 minutes. It's been remarkable to see Lionel Messi's goals and assists go up and up.
