Kunwar Digvijay Singh, popularly known as KD Singh “Babu”, was one of the most celebrated Indian field hockey players. He was born on 2 February 1922 in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. Known for his hypnotic passing ability and unmatched ball control, KD Singh excelled as an inside-right forward. His remarkable vision and creativity made him one of the most skillful playmakers in Indian hockey history.
Sadly, KD Singh Babu passed away on 27 March 1978 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, due to an accidental gunshot wound while cleaning his weapon.

KD Singh began his hockey journey at a young age. His first major appearance came at the Dewa Mela Tournament, where his talent caught the eye of sports enthusiasts. In 1937, he represented his school team in an inter-college tournament and, at just 15 years old, played for the LYA Club, Lucknow, in the Traders Cup held in Old Delhi.
