Top 5 Best Gundappa Viswanath batting Performances

Gundappa Viswanath is one of those batters who would force people to pay and watch him show his exquisite timing and ball placement. Here we look at his top 5 best innings.

The next person we are talking about is one of the most stylish batters in the history of Indian Cricket and especially his flick shots were one of a kind and he was the hero of Karnataka cricket and looking at him so many young players came up in Karnataka who took over the world and they all looked up to him as their hero and he served Indian cricket with dignity and grace and it is one my regrets that I could not watch him bat live. I hope he has a long and healthy life and keeps mentoring more young players who can play fir India like he did.

Gundappa Viswanath is one of those batters who would force people to pay and watch him show his exquisite timing and ball placement and his speciality format was test cricket and he did not need to play that much of ODI cricket as he did so much in one format that he will forever have an everlasting legacy in cricket. So, let’s see the Top 5 Best Gundappa Viswanath batting Performances.

While batting first Australia scored 333 runs and then in reply the Indian Batters came out and it was a 2 man show as first it was Dilip Vengsarkar who scored a good century but the show was stolen by Gundappa Viswanath that day as he was not out till the end of the innings and he was playing in a sublime fashion and he even hit a 6 in this innings and tormented the Australian bowling attack.

179 vs West Indies (1979)

To play this kind of innings against the best bowling attack at the time and to bat for so long just shows that he was of a different breed of batters from the others as he used to do this regularly for India. This match India were batting first and they made full use of the flat pitch shd there were lot of players who hit hundreds but Gundappa Viswanath stood out with this monster of an innings of 179 on that day. The West Indies bowlers had no clue where to bowl to him as he was smashing the ball to all parts.

The last and final innings of the great Gundappa Viswanath that I will be talking about is this incredible innings that he played in the second innings of this test match vs West Indies when the match was in the balance and anyone could have won it. In the first innings of both India and West Indies the scores were level and the onus was on India to get a move on and here is where Gundappa Viswanath told that I am here and he took the West Indies bowling attack to the cleaners and made 139 and as a result India won the test match by 85 runs.
