Kapil Dev is the greatest all rounder that India has ever seen and he is the first captain from India to win the ODI World Cup in 1983. Kapil Dev could do it all in both Test Cricket and ODI Cricket. He played 131 Test Matches for India and in those Matches he picked a massive 434 Wickets which was a record at the time. He also scored 5248 runs at an average of 31.05 which makes him one of the only few players to have taken 400+ Test Wickets and made over 5000+ Test Runs. He also played 225 ODIs for India and he took 253 Wickets and he also scored 3783 runs . He has taken more than 680 international wickets and made more than 9000 international Runs. He played some exceptional innings in his career. 175 not out against Zimbabwe in 1983 world cup is the best innings played by Kapil Dev.

1) He has the best figures in Test Cricket history by a captain when he took 9 wickets in an innings for 83 runs against West Indies in 1983.

 

2) He is the first Indian captain to win the ODI World Cup in 1983.

 

3) He has taken the most number of wickets for an Indian fast bowler in Test Cricket history.


4) Kapil Dev is the youngest to complete the milestone of 100, 200 and 300 Test Wickets in Test Cricket history.

 

5) He is the only player in Test Cricket to complete the double of 5000+ Test Runs and 400+ Test Wickets.

 

6) Kapil Dev holds the record for taking the most Wickets in a year in Test Cricket by an Indian bowler at 75 Wickets in 1983.

 

7) He is also the first player to hit 4 consecutive sixes in Test Cricket when he smashed EE Hemmings in 1990.

1) He was honored with the Arjuna Award in 1980.

 


2) In 1982 he was honored with the prestigious Padma Shri Award.

 


3) He was awarded as the Wisden Cricketer of the year in 1983.

 


4) He was honored with the 3rd highest civilian award in the country Padma Bhushan in 1991.

 


5) In 2002 he was awarded the Wisden Indian cricketer of the century.
