112 and 83 vs New Zealand (2004)


If there was ever a perfect debut in test cricket then this was it, Andrew Strauss playing his first test match and that too at Lord’s and he scores a brilliant hundred in his debut innings so I think this instantly finds a spot in our list. The pressure on this young man must have been immense and to play for 215 balls and hit 13 fours at a strike rate of 52.09 and be the lone centurion in the Innings and then he went on to score 83 in the fourth Innings and won England the test match by 7 wickets. He made 83 from 171 balls with 13 fours that means 52 runs in boundaries. It was a dream Debut.

126 and 94* vs South Africa (2004)


Andrew Strauss was having one of the best debut years ever in test cricket history and he continued it against the mighty South Africa team in their home and won this test match for England by 7 wickets as well. He made a stunning 126 in the first batting innings for England and he faced 228 balls with 17 fours in the Innings at a strike rate of 55.26 but the more impressive innings came in the all important 4th innings where England needed 145 to win and Andrew Strauss made 94 runs off those and in just 134 balls showing that he can be aggressive when he wants to be. He hit 12 fours and 1 six in this innings and he struck at 70.15 and was not out at the end.

137 vs West Indies (2004)


The third performance from 2004 for Andrew Strauss and the third different opponent that he did it against in his debut year showing that he is capable against any attack. This time England were batting first and Andrew Strauss came out attacking from the word go and he only took 202 balls to make his 137 and he hit 20 fours that means a total of 80 runs in boundaries. He was striking it at 67.82 and as a result of his incredible innings England won this match by 210 runs. Andrew Strauss was having a dream Debut year in test cricket unlike very few that have ever had before him.

161 vs Australia (2009)


This innings came against Australia and it was yet again at Lord’s but this was in 2009 during the later stages of his career and this list would be incomplete without a performance against Australia and England were batting first at Lord’s and Andrew Strauss made 161 wonderful runs from 268 balls and he hit 22 fours in this innings of his and he was striking at 60.07. This was a special innings against an attack that was top class and England won this match by 115 Runs.

152 vs Bangladesh (2005)


This is one of the best ODI innings that Andrew Strauss played that resulted in a very good win for England in 2005. Andrew Strauss showed that he was not only a test match batter but could also play an innings with brutality. He only took 128 balls to make 152 and he hit 19 fours in this innings at an amazing strike rate of 118.75. This was a statement that nobody should take Andrew Strauss lightly in ODIs. England won this match by 168 runs.
