All-Time Punjab Kings XI: Greatest PBKS Players Ever

KL Rahul leads an all-time Punjab Kings XI featuring PBKS legends and standout match-winners

Explore the All-Time Punjab Kings XI, featuring KL Rahul, Shaun Marsh, Maxwell, Miller and other PBKS greats. See roles, stats and key moments.

Few IPL franchises have delivered the highs and lows of Punjab Kings (PBKS), formerly Kings XI Punjab. The franchise has produced explosive batters, influential all-rounders, quality spinners, and several memorable individual performances since the IPL began in 2008.

Selecting an All-Time Punjab Kings XI is not simply about choosing the biggest names. The lineup must balance peak performance, consistency, match impact, player roles, and the IPL's limit of four overseas players.

This XI combines Punjab's most influential run-scorers, wicket-takers, all-rounders, and match-winners into a balanced T20 side.

Top Order: KL Rahul, Shaun Marsh and Shreyas Iyer

1. KL Rahul (Opener and Wicketkeeper)

KL Rahul's four-year spell with Punjab Kings from 2018 to 2021 produced one of the franchise's strongest individual runs.

He scored 2,548 runs for PBKS at an average of more than 56, regularly competing for the IPL Orange Cap. His consistency at the top of the order makes him the natural captain and wicketkeeper in this XI.

PBKS record: 2,548 runs | 20 scores above 50 | 2 centuries

Role: Opener, anchor, wicketkeeper and captain

Key highlight: A 14-ball half-century against Delhi Capitals in 2018, the fastest IPL fifty at the time.

Rahul's ability to control an innings while maintaining a strong scoring rate gives this lineup a reliable foundation.

2. Shaun Marsh

Shaun Marsh was one of the first major batting stars associated with Kings XI Punjab. He won the 2008 IPL Orange Cap after scoring 616 runs in 11 matches, despite missing the opening games of the tournament.

Marsh remained an important top-order batter for the franchise over several seasons and combined left-handed strokeplay with consistency.

PBKS record: 2,477 runs | Average: 39.95 | 1 century

Role: Left-handed top-order batter

His inclusion also gives the opening combination a natural left-right balance alongside Rahul.

3. Shreyas Iyer (Captain)

Shreyas Iyer has been one of Punjab Kingsโ€™ most important players over the last two IPL seasons, combining consistency with an attacking approach. In IPL 2025, his first season with PBKS, Iyer scored 604 runs in 17 matches at an average of 50.33 and a strike rate of 175.07, including six fifties, with his unbeaten 97 against Gujarat Titans and 87 against Mumbai Indians among his standout performances as Punjab reached the final.

He followed that up with another prolific IPL 2026 campaign, scoring 498 runs in 14 matches at 55.33 and a strike rate of 168.81, including five fifties and his maiden IPL century โ€” an unbeaten 101 off 51 balls against Lucknow Super Giants. Across these two seasons, Iyer has scored 1,102 runs for Punjab Kings at an average of 52.48 and a strike rate of 172.19, establishing himself as the teamโ€™s batting leader and one of the most reliable high-impact performers in the IPL.

Middle Order: Maxwell, Miller and Yuvraj

4. Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell's 2014 campaign remains one of the defining individual seasons in Punjab Kings history.

He scored 552 runs at a strike rate of 187.75, including 36 sixes, and played a major role in Punjab reaching their maiden IPL final.

Maxwell adds another dimension because he can also contribute with off-spin.

Role: Middle-order power-hitter and part-time off-spinner

Key season: 2014 โ€” 552 runs at a 187.75 strike rate

5. David Miller

David Miller became synonymous with explosive finishing during his Punjab career. His ability to attack spin and pace made him a dangerous option in the latter stages of an innings.

His most memorable PBKS performance came in 2013, when he smashed a 38-ball century against Royal Challengers Bangalore during a remarkable run chase.

PBKS record: 1,850 runs | Strike rate: 138.78

Role: Death-overs finisher

Miller provides the specialist finishing role that complements the more anchoring approach of Rahul.

6. Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh was Punjab's inaugural icon player and captain in 2008. His experience and ability to change games with both bat and ball make him a natural inclusion.

During his 2009 campaign, Yuvraj took two IPL hat-tricks, demonstrating the impact he could have as a bowling option in addition to his middle-order batting.

Role: Middle-order batter, leader and part-time left-arm spinner

Spin Attack: Axar Patel, Ashwin and Chawla

7. Axar Patel

Axar Patel provided Punjab with control through his left-arm orthodox spin while also contributing useful runs lower down the order.

Between 2014 and 2018, he took 61 wickets for the franchise and recorded a hat-trick against Gujarat Lions in 2016.

Role: Left-arm spin all-rounder

Axar's ability to bowl economical spells and contribute with the bat gives the XI additional flexibility.

8. Ravichandran Ashwin

Ashwin captained Punjab in 2018 and 2019 and brought tactical awareness and extensive experience to the bowling attack.

His variations as an off-spinner, along with his ability to contribute lower-order runs, make him a useful member of an all-time XI.

Role: Senior off-spinner and lower-order batter

9. Piyush Chawla

Piyush Chawla was Punjab's leading wicket-taking leg-spinner during the early IPL seasons. His ability to attack batters with turn and variation made him an important part of the franchise's bowling attack.

He finished his PBKS stint with 84 wickets in 87 matches, making him one of the franchise's leading wicket-takers.

Role: Leg-spinner and middle-overs wicket-taker

Pace Attack: Sandeep Sharma and Arshdeep Singh

10. Sandeep Sharma

Sandeep Sharma was one of Punjab's most effective Powerplay bowlers for five seasons.

His ability to swing the new ball in both directions allowed him to challenge top-order batters early in innings. He took 71 wickets for PBKS at an economy rate below 8.00.

Role: New-ball swing bowler

11. Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh developed through the Punjab Kings setup and established himself as a specialist T20 death bowler.

His strength lies in bowling yorkers under pressure, making him the preferred option for the difficult final overs in this XI.

Role: Left-arm fast bowler and death specialist

Sam Curran is the principal alternative if the XI requires another overseas all-rounder and greater batting depth.
