Top 5 Javed Miandad batting performances

Javed Miandad was a maverick in the game of cricket because the things he has done not everyone can do. Here we look at his top 5 batting performances.

We are back with yet another slate of best performances articles and this time we have some great ones for you. And the nation from which we will talk about is a favorite of all Indians and some of the greatest characters of the game will be talked about today. First on the list is someone who was the chief tormentor for India for many years and especially at Sharjah he never let India beat Pakistan and he was one of the all time great cricketers as well as one of the all time great entertainers because cricket needs entertainment and it need not be boring all the time.

Javed Miandad was a maverick in the game of cricket because the things he has done not everyone can do , for example he played in 6 ODI World Cups and he is the only batter to hit 9 Consecutive 50+ scores in ODIs which is astounding and he is also the youngest Player to hit a test match double hundred and the list could on and on. He won the 1992 World Cup with Pakistan and he was one of the chief architects of the win. That last ball six that he hit off the bowling of Chetan Sharma stayed with India for years and years. So, let’s see the Top 5 batting Performances of this great cricketer.

163 vs New Zealand (1976)

This was his first ever test match and his first test innings and he was just a shade over 19 years old so imagine the pressure on this young man who had to show the world that he has arrived and is one of the very best in world cricket and then to do what he did is extremely special. That New Zealand bowling attack was one of the best in the world with Richard Hadlee at his best. And to add to the concerns his team was 44/3 when he walked in and then they were reduced to 55/4 and from there he made 163 runs in his debut innings which was enough to show the world that he us extraordinary. Pakistan cricket had a new Superstar and all the other teams were fearful of him immediately.

119* vs India (1982)

It is no secret that India was the favorite opposition of Javed Miandad and he loved scoring lots of runs against India and this innings that we are talking about is his highest ODI score as well and it came in a rain curtailed match of 33 overs and Javed just tore apart the Indian bowling attack and he smashed six fours and 5 Sixes in that innings and Pakistan made 252 in 33 overs. It remains one of the most brutal assaults on an Indian team even now. A truly spectacular show of batsmanship.

116* vs India (1986)

Finally we are here to talk about that innings and that match that gave the Indian team nightmares for years after it happened. It was at Sharjah and the only man standing between India and the win was Javed Miandad and he made India pay dearly for not getting him out before. He hit only 3 fours and 3 sixes in that innings and the rest of the time he was ticking the scoreboard along so Pakistan were always in the match. Then came the last ball of the match , Chetan Sharma was bowling and Javed Miandad was batting and Pakistan needed 4 from the last ball and it looked like an Indian win but Javed hit the last ball for a sux and won Pakistan a historic match and broke the hearts of all Indian cricket fans.

280* vs India (1983)

India has made a hat trick of mentions on this list and as I said before he was the tormentor in chief for the Indian team for years and this test innings by Javed Miandad should have been a triple hundred but captain Imran Khan declared 20 runs before when he was at 280*. Javed Miandad came out when Pakistan were 60 for 2 and from there he just went after the Indian bowling attack and was just toying with the bowling scoring runs at will and anywhere he wanted to and nobody was stopping him. He first made his hundred then he coasted along to his double hundred and then he faced towards 280* and not once did the bowlers trouble him. Indian players would hope that he would have mercy on them but no such mercy was shown by Javed Miandad.

114 vs West Indies (1988)

The final performance in our list is one of his best overseas performances because he was questioned over his overseas form and he chose to give all the answers with his bat in the tour to West Indies in 1088 and in the first test match against hostile fast bowlers from the West Indies he scored a magnificent hundred from 235 balls and showing everyone that he was an all conditions player and after that he was respected even more. This was a show of pure grit and determination from the Pakistan legend.
