Travis Head has further strengthened his place among Australia’s cricketing elite after winning the prestigious Allan Border Medal for the second consecutive year.
The 32-year-old left-handed opener received Australia’s highest individual men’s cricket honor at the Cricket Australia awards ceremony in Brisbane on Friday evening.
With another victory, Head joined an exclusive group of players to win the Allan Border Medal multiple times. The list includes Australian greats such as Ricky Ponting, Shane Watson, Michael Clarke, Steve Smith, and David Warner.
Head Edges Carey in a Dramatic Vote
Head’s second consecutive triumph came after one of the closest Allan Border Medal counts in recent years.
The voting covered Australia’s international campaign during the 2025–26 season, with Head finishing on 153 votes. He narrowly defeated South Australian teammate and wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey, who collected 152 votes.
Fast-bowling leader Mitchell Starc was also firmly in contention, finishing third with 150 votes.

Reflecting on the back-to-back wins, Head admitted that he never expected to claim the award even once.
“I didn't expect to win one. To win two is pretty incredible. It’s been an unbelievable 12 months with a lot of special team memories, especially retaining the Ashes. To be recognized like this alongside guys who had massive years is deeply humbling.”
