Erapalli Anantharao Srinivas Prasanna was born on 22nd May 1940 and is a former Indian cricketer. He was an off-spinner and a member of the Indian spin quartet along with Srinivas Venkataraghavan(off-spinner), Bhagwat Chandrasekhar( a leg-spinner) and Bishan Singh Bedi( a left-arm spinner). Between them, they played 231 Test matches, taking 853 wickets. They were regarded as one of the deadliest combinations in world cricket in that era, especially on the dry and dusty subcontinental pitches. He is an alumnus of the national institute of engineering, Mysore.

On January 10 1962, Prasanna got a chance to debut for India in tests. The test was played in Chennai. He scored 26 runs and took 1 wicket in his debut match. He is the player who had the best figures in the match (10 wickets) but eventually ended up on the losing side. Also, he has the best economy rate in an innings(0.46) , the oldest player to take ten wickets in a match (35y 247d). Also E. A Prasanna is the fastest to have 100 test wickets( 20 matches) and the fastest to 150 wickets also( 34 matches). He took 189 test wickets in his career.

Facts:


E. A.S Prasanna completed his engineering degree in the five-year gap he got in cricket after his debut. He was a member of the Indian spin quartet, which dominated world cricket between 1960 and 1970. Australian great IAN CHAPPELL remains in awe of the brilliant technique E.A.S Prasanna used to execute in his bowling. He retired in 1978 with 189 wickets in tests at an average of 30.38 and also picked up 10 five-wicket hauls in the longest format of the game. He was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri award in 1970.
