Virat Kohli had started playing ODI Cricket since 2008 and it had been a few months and he was searching for his first international hundred. The opportunity came at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata in the year 2009. It was a match against Sri Lanka and India were chasing a big total of 316 to win this match. Virat Kohli was very composed in this chase and he showed what was to come in the future. He made 107 runs from 114 balls. He hit 11 fours and 1 six in this innings meaning 50 runs in boundaries. He ran for 57 of his runs and he was very good running between the wickets at that time. He had a big partnership with Gautam Gambhir who made a match winning 150 not out and India won the match by 7 wickets.

Virat Kohli had finally arrived in international cricket as he had made his first international hundred and that too against a good team in Sri Lanka and in such a high pressure run chase. The chase master was born on this day and Virat Kohli had only gotten better even after 15+ years of international cricket. After the match , Gautam Gambhir had won the Man of the match but he gave it to Virat Kohli because it was his first ODI Hundred and it boosted his confidence. This innings of 107 was the start of something that would change the cricket world again. Virat Kohli has hit 49 more ODI Centuries after this one. In 2011, just after 3 years he started playing international cricket, he had won the World Cup.
