The list of the most successful batting pairs in ODI Cricket is a list that has the greatest ODI batters that have ever played the game. Ever since ODI Cricket has been around since 1971, there have been some truly incredible batters across all countries that have played the sport. From the likes of Viv Richards to Kapil Dev to Sachin Tendulkar to Ricky Ponting to Brian Lara to Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene. Also Gary Kirsten to AB De Villiers to David Warner to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The list is long and the partnerships between them are legendary as well.

1) Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly – 8227 Runs



At number 1 by a margin of 2300 runs from the second best pair , it is clear that Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly have been the most successful batting pair in ODI Cricket history. They have batted for 176 innings together and scored 8227 runs, which is also the record of most partnership runs in odi cricket. They have a very good partnership average of 47. Their best partnership is a massive 258 runs and they have had 26 century partnerships and 29 stands over 50. That means in the 55 innings that they Batted together in , they scored more than 50 together. Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly were the reason that India won a lot of matches in the early 2000s.

2) Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara – 5992 Runs



This is one of the few Batting Pairs where the same pair is in the list for the most successful batters in ODI Cricket. Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara are a truly legendary batting pair for Sri Lanka. They have played in 151 Innings batting together and in those they have made 5992 runs. They have a partnership average of 41.61 and they have made 15 century partnerships and 32 partnerships which were more than 50 runs. They were easily the best batting pair in the history of Sri Lankan cricket.


3) Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara – 5475 Runs



At number 3 is another pair from Sri Lanka and this pair was a devastating pair in ODI Cricket. They have scored 5475 Runs and they played in 108 Innings together. They had a very good partnership average of 53.67. They have had 20 partnerships which were more than 200 and they also had 19 stands more than 50. This means they had 39 partnerships out of 108 which were more than 50. Dilshan was the attacking partner and Kumar Sangakkara was the technical genius. They had a highest partnership of 210*.


4) Marvan Atapattu and Sanath Jayasuriya – 5462 Runs



The 3rd Sri Lankan pair in the Top 4 is a staggering achievement. It shows how good an ODI side Sri Lanka was in the 90s and the 2000s. This opening pair for Sri Lanka was truly special. They Batted in 144 innings together and at an average of 39.62, they have made 5462 Runs. They had 14 stands more than 100 and 26 partnerships which were more than 50. They were a pair which won a lot of matches for Sri Lanka and it is sad to see the state of Sri Lankan cricket In the last 5-7 Years. Their highest partnership was 237 Runs.

5) Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden – 5409 Runs



At number 5 just by a little more than 50 runs is the devastating opening pair for Australia which put fear in all the opposition teams. Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden were the 2 most destructive left handers In the world. They Batted for 117 Innings together and at a good average of 47.44 they made 5409 Runs. They had 16 century partnerships and 29 stands over 50 Runs. Their highest partnership was 172 runs.

6) Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma – 5213 Runs and counting



This is the only batting pair in this list that is still actively playing ODI Cricket. They have batted so well for India together. In the ongoing 2023 ODI World Cup, they are the leading 2 run getters for India with both nearing 600 Runs. They have Batted for 92 innings together as of writing this. They have scored 5313 Runs at an outstanding average of 59.91. They have had 18 partnerships over 100 runs and 17 stands worth more than 50 runs. 7) Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes—5206 Runs



This legendary batting pair from West Indies were number 6 in the list not too long ago. They are the pair that helped West Indies dominate ODI Cricket in the early 1970s till the 1980s. They absolutely decimated their opponents. They Batted for 103 Innings together and at an average of 52.58, they made 5206 runs. They have had 15 100 plus partnerships and 25 stands more than 50. 8) Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma – 5193 Runs

Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma were perfect together and they complimented each other really well. They Batted for 117 innings together and they made 5193 runs at an average of 45.15. They have had 18 century partnerships and 15 half century stands. Their highest partnership is 210 runs.


9) Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar – 4387 Runs



There is a big gap between number 8 and 9. The number 9 pair was the most entertaining opening pair in modern Times. It was the pair of the greatest Sachin Tendulkar and the recently indicted ICC Hall of Famer Virender Sehwag. At number 10 by just 24 runs is the pair of Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly. They were one of the most underrated batting pairs but they were also one of the best. They Batted for 88 Innings together and they had a good average of 50.17. They had 11 century partnerships and 18 stands of more than 50. Their highest partnership was a massive one of 318 Runs.
