1) Sunil Gavaskar was the first player in the history of international cricket to cross the landmark of 10,000 Test Runs. That was a humongous achievement back in the day.

2) He held the record for the most centuries till 2005 with 34 Hundreds and he broke the record of Don Bradman to achieve this landmark.

3) Sunil Gavaskar holds the record for scoring the most number of runs in his debut Test Series when he made 774 runs against West Indies in 1971.

4) He also holds the record for hitting the most runs against the West Indies in a single Test Series with 774 Runs .

5) He has hit the maximum number of runs against the West Indies at 2749 runs and he has also hit the most number of centuries against them with 13 hundreds.

6) Sunil Gavaskar is the only cricketer to hit 4 Centuries at 2 test venues which are Port of Spain and Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

7) He is the first non wicket keeper to have 100 catches in Test Cricket.
