This was a match where Javed Miandad became one of the biggest legends in the history of Pakistan cricket. This match has been used by Pakistan to taunt India for a number of years.


When did Javed Miandad hit last-ball six against India?


On 18th April 1986, Javed Miandad scored an iconic last-ball six on Chetan Sharma’s ball in the 1986 Austral-Asia Cup final not only secured Pakistan's victory but also etched him as a hero in Pakistan cricket history. Scoring an unbeaten 116, Miandad's courage and skill shattered Indian hearts, leaving an indelible mark on one of the greatest ODI matches, ultimately making him a legend.

This was the final of the 1986 Austral- Asia Cup and it was being played between India vs Pakistan and both these 2 were the best teams at that time. India batted first in this match and they played a good 50 overs. The Top 3 batters for India in this match were Kris Srikanth, Sunil Gavaskar and Dilip Vengsarkar all scored more than 50 runs. They scored 75, 92 and 50 runs respectively. This helped India to reach a respectable total of 245 for the loss of 7 wickets. Pakistan had a target of 246 to win the match.


The Pakistan innings was a one man show as all the other batters could not even reach a 50. Wickets were falling at regular intervals but they had one man who was standing between India and a win. He batted for 114 balls and he made sure that he did not get out and 9 wickets had fallen. He hit 3 fours and 3 sixes in this innings meaning only 30 runs in boundaries. He ran for 86 of his runs and still had a strike rate of 102. It had come down to the last ball and Javed Miandad was on strike. Chetan Sharma had taken 3 Wickets in the match and he was bowling the last ball. Javed Miandad was ready and as soon as the ball was bowled, he smashed the ball for a big six and Pakistan won one of their most famous matches in history.


This last ball Six broke the hearts of every Indian cricket fan and Javed Miandad had become the biggest hero for Pakistan cricket. Pakistan had only 1 Wicket left but still he had the courage to hit the last ball for a six. This loss took a lot of time for India to heal and this innings of 116 not out was Javed Miandad’s best innings in ODI Cricket. Javed Miandad then went on to win the 1992 World Cup with Pakistan. India went on to beat Pakistan in the 2007 World T20I Final and that healed a lot of wounds.
