Top 5 Best Performances of Serena and Venus Williams

Serena and Venus Williams have not only won 14 Grand Slam titles together but also 3 Olympic Gold Medals in 2000,2008 and 2012. Here we look at the top 5 best performances of Serena and Venus Williams.

We talked about the Top 5 singles Performances by Serena Williams in an article but now it is time to talk about the Williams sisters and how dominant they were together and the best performances of the duo. They were the most dominant female doubles team and they won a total of 14 Grand Slam titles together as a pair and they were undefeated in their Grand Slam finals. We will talk about their records below but whenever these 2 reached the final it was curtains for the other pair.

These 2 sisters have not only won 14 Grand Slam titles together but also 3 Olympic Gold Medals in 2000,2008 and 2012 and this shows that they were unstoppable. Their career win-loss record was an astonishing 185-37 which gave them a win % of 83.3%. To say they were the most feared team in the Women’s doubles circuit would be an understatement so let’s look at their Top 5 Performances.

1999 French Open Women’s Doubles Final

This was the first Grand Slam title they won together as a pair and it was not an easy one as it went all 3 sets and it was almost 2 hours. They have to show that they are the best team and they won the 1st 6-3 against their opponents Martina Hingis and Anna Kournikova and the sisters lost the 2nd set in a tie break 7-6 but they bounced back to win the 3rd set by 8-6 and win the French Open in 1999 and start their era of dominance.

2008 Wimbledon Women’s Doubles Final

The next performance that we will talk about is the 2008 Wimbledon Final where they were at their imperious best and they completely dominated their opponents Lisa Raymond and Samantha Stosur and won the match and the title in 2 sets 6-2 and 6-2 in under an hour. People might say why I chose this performance and that is to show how dominant they got after years of playing together.

2001 Australian Open Women’s Doubles Final

The third performance that I will talk about of the Williams sisters is the 2001 Australian Open Final where it was an all American affair and this went the distance with 3 sets and the sisters had to beat Lindsay Davenport and Corina Moranu and the sisters won the 1st set by 6-2 they lost the 2nd set by 6-4 but they came back like they always do and won the deciding set by 6-4 and won the 2001 Australian Open Final.

2009 US Open Women’s Doubles Final

The fourth performance that I will talk about is the Grand Slam that they won in 2009 and again it was in 2 sets that they did it against their very capable opponents in Cara Black and Liezel Huber. The sisters absolutely obliterated their opponents in 2 sets and lost just 4 games in the match and they won the match and the title by 6-2 and 6-2 and they made their home fans extremely happy in 2009.

2012 Olympics Women’s Doubles Final

It is extremely rare that 1 Doubles pair has won all the 4 Grand Slam titles and the Olympic Gold Medal twice in their careers and I think no other Women’s  doubles pair has done this. The final performance that we will talk about is the 2012 Olympic Final where they were tested more as compared to the previous Olympic finals. It was a 2 setter and the sisters won the gold but they lost 8 games in this match against their Czech Republic opponents Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka and they won the match 6-4 and 6-4 and made the USA proud yet again.
