Top 5 Best Virender Sehwag Innings

Virender Sehwag who was the most destructive of his generation and he was used to making big scores in international cricket. Here we look at his top 5 best innings.

Here in this article we will talk about a cricketer who was the most destructive of his generation and he was used to making big scores in international cricket and especially Test cricket where he was a revolutionary. We will talk about his records below but I just want to say personally he was the batter I loved watching the most after Sachin Tendulkar. He treated Test cricket like ODI cricket and ODI cricket like T20I cricket.

Virender Sehwag played 104 Test matches for India and in those Matches he scored 8586 runs at an outstanding average of 49.34 and at an astonishing strike rate of 82.21 in Test cricket. He walks into the All Time Indian test 11 for this very reason as he was different. He scored 23 Test hundreds and 6 Double Hundreds in test cricket and he is only 1 of the 2 batters in history to have 2 Test triple hundreds and a score of 290+ with the other being Don Bradman. In the ODI format he played 251 ODIs for India and he made 8273 runs at an average of over 35 and a ridiculous strike rate of 104.33 throughout his ODI career. He has 15 ODI hundreds and 1 Double Hundred as well. Let’s see the Top 5 Best Virender Sehwag batting Performances

319 vs South Africa (2008)

South Africa had made a daunting total of 540 in the first innings of this test match and it was time for India to respond and Virendra Singh resounded in his own style and scored the highest test score by an Indian in test cricket history and he made these 319 runs at a strike rate of 104.93 which is outrageous. He smashed the likes of Dale Steyn, Makhaya Ntini and Morne Morkel to all parts and hit 42 yours and 5 big sixes which means 198 runs in boundaries. This was one Of the most brutal hitting in test cricket history. India scored 627 in reply and the match was drawn but this test match will always be remembered for 319.

201* vs Sri Lanka (2008)

This might not be his highest score but it us the innings which has given Virender Sehwag a lot of satisfaction because he scored this double hundred against a very good bowling attack and in tough conditions. His innings was so great that out of the total 329 runs India put on the board he made 201 and all the other batters got out cheaply to Ajantha Mendis. Virender Sehwag hit 22 fours and 4 huge sixes which means a total of 122 runs in boundaries and still he made all these runs at a strike rate of over 87. This was an outrageous innings and only Virender Sehwag could have played it and as a result India won this match by a whopping 170 runs.

293 vs Sri Lanka (2009)

This was the most brutal test innings I have ever seen in my life and the only regret is that he was just 7 runs short of making history once again by hitting his 3rs Triple hundred. However this was one of his best ever as he made all these runs in 1 day and he hit 40 fours and 7 sixes meaning 202 runs came in boundaries alone and he scored at a strike rate of 115.35 in a test match. Imagine the level of fear that this man had on all bowling attacks in his prime.

219 vs West Indies (2011)

The last innings that we will talk about in this list is the double hundred which he got against West Indies in an ODI match in which he was the captain as well. He was in a dangerous mood that day and he was hitting every ball in sight to the fence and he made 219 runs before he got out. In this mammoth innings he hit 25 fours and 7 sixes which means 142 runs came in boundaries alone. He scored these runs at a great Strike rate of 146.98 and he only took 146 balls to make these runs and as expected India won this match by 153 runs in the end. He was one of the greatest entertainers in the game and he did all this hitting in Test and ODI cricket when every team had incredible bowling attacks.
