1978 Wimbledon Final vs Chris Evert


This was the first Singles Grand Slam title in the career of Martina Navratilova and it came in 1078 and it was a 3 set match which went the distance. Martina lost the 1st set 2-6 but the way she came back in the next 2 sets and won the title is staggering. She won the 2nd set 6-4 and then the last set by 7-5 and her first Singles Grand Slam title. It was the first of 18 in her career.

1981 Australian Open Final vs Chris Evert


This is the 2nd incredible performance we will talk about and it was against the same opponent as was in our opening selection and even this was a 3 setter but this was a thrilling match with all the 3 sets very evenly contested. The 1st set went again to Chris Evert In a tie break after it was 6-6 and she won 7-6 but as usual the comeback queen Martina Navratilova won the next 2 sets but it wasn’t easy. She won the 2nd set 6-4 and the 3rd set 7-5. It was one of her best performances.

1982 French Open Final vs Andrea Jaeger


This is the first of 2 French Open titles that she won as a Singles star and this was a 2 set match in which the 1st was very close as both players have it their all. Martina and Andrea were locked in at 6-6 going into the tie break and Martina won the tie break by 8-6 and then in the 2nd set it was easy for Martina as she easily won that set by 6-1 to win the title and it was a showing of grit and determination of the highest order by the greatest ever.

1987 US Open Final vs Steffi Graf


This was a match between an time great at that point and a young German starter at the same point but today we can look at this match and aay that it was a final between 2 of the greatest of all time and Martina showed why she was better at that time by winning the US Open in 2 sets. The 1st set was a tie break at 6-6 which Martina won 7-4 and then in the second set she won 6-1. It was a dominant showing and Steffi Graf learned a lot as well.
